Food Industry Skills Welsh Apprenticeship Review

May 18, 2020 | Apprenticeships, NSAFD News, Wales

The NSAFD are working with the food and drink industry in Wales in order to ensure the industry has the right apprenticeships to meet their needs.

PLEASE NOTE THIS CONSULTATION HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL 31ST JULY DUE TO CURRENT COVID-19 CIRCUMSTANCES.

Welsh Government requirements for the redevelopment of apprenticeships in Wales, and employer consultation feedback, suggests the current Apprenticeships need to be more technical and aligned to recognised job roles.

Through these consultations, we would welcome feedback on the proposed changes to the structures of the L2 and L3 Food Industry Skills qualifications – these qualifications underpin apprenticeships in Wales.  It will be of particular interest to stakeholders including prospective apprentices, awarding bodies, assessors, providers and employers.

The consultation questionnaire includes a number of questions.  These questions are not exhaustive and we would also welcome your comments on any related issue.  Please provide reasons alongside your answers where possible.

The consultation period will run to 15th May 2020.

The proposal for the review of the L2 Food Industry Skills apprenticeship is that it is split into an apprenticeship for process operations and an apprenticeship for food sales/service, with clearer unit groups, and also incorporates elements of Food Manufacturing Excellence, which would be discontinued as a L2 apprenticeship.

The proposal for the review of the L3 Food Industry Skills apprenticeship is that a more technical qualification is developed with clearer unit groups, which also incorporates elements of Food Manufacturing Excellence, which would be discontinued as a L3 apprenticeship.
