National Occupational Standards (NOS) Online Consultations

Monday, October 15, 2018 - 11:44

There is only limited time left for employers to have their say on the review of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the Food and Drink sector.

National Skills Academy for Food and Drink is urging employers to feedback on the food and drink NOS by Friday 16th November - input is crucial to ensure the industry standards are fit for purpose.

The areas being reviewed range from specialist sub-sectors such as Meat & Poultry, Fish & Shellfish, Brewing and Fresh Produce to standards for Business and People, Product Development and Support Operations.

As well as these food and drink sectors, NSAFD is also urging employers to review NOS for Occupational Health and Safety – these cross sector standards are also under review and relevant to food and drink businesses. This consultation will remain open until Friday 30th November.

Business involvement will ensure the benchmark industry standards of performance and effective working keep pace with changing industry needs.

NOS set down industry expectations of performance and achievement in the roles and the specific knowledge and skills staff need to perform effectively. The NOS for the food and drink sector form the basis of industry qualifications and are used to inform professional development.

In Scotland, industry agreement to revised NOS will directly inform development and reviews of Scottish Vocational Qualifications and Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the NOS are used as building blocks for qualifications and training programmes.

NSAFD would like businesses to get involved by completing the online consultations in the following areas:
