Legionella: Role of the Responsible Person

This course consists of a range of classrooms sessions to ensure that by end of this course, the delegate will be able to: • State core facts in connection with legionella bacteria, the background, transmission / infection, statistics and conditions for growth • State applicable legionella legislation and understand / explain where they sit legally, how to interpret them and other core requirements • Explain the role, responsibilities and competency requirements of those involved within risk management and those that implement control measures • Risk Water Systems: Understand / Explain the risks and how they work simply • Describe some of the design / operation / maintenance requirements associated with hot and cold water systems • Risk Assessment: State the importance, key requirements and explain some control measures in connection with: - Competence - Recognised bodies in the industry - The requirements of the risk assessment - When to review - Schematic Drawings - BS8580-1:2019 • Explain what a written scheme of control is and some of the necessary measures to include / consider. • Explain some of the operation / inspection regimes for hot and cold water systems, how to conduct them and necessary frequencies associated. • Know the importance of maintaining biocidal systems, name those which can be used and explain some facts on each, to assist with best selection and management. • State when hot and cold water systems require disinfection and general requirements for thermal and chemical disinfection. • Explain some of the requirements around legionella sampling including when / where / analysis / action levels / PCR. • State some facts to consider in connection with: - Residential Accommodation: Landlords - Shared Premises - Special Consideration for Healthcare and Care Homes - HSE
