Who is this programme aimed at?

This programme is aimed at those operating or starting work in production roles within food & drink businesses.

Production Operators and Process Operators.

Related Programmes

IAAP Advanced Operator Programme. There is an Advanced Operator IAAP (L3) aimed at those working in more automated plants.

What capability will the programme develop?

Apprentices will learn the context in which food businesses work, the end to end supply chain and the specifics of working in operational roles including health and safety, hygiene, product integrity, environmental management systems, principles of CI, GMP and performance data. They will be able to undertake a wide range of activities including following SOP’s, carrying out basic fault finding and problem solving and actively contributing to optimal production performance. They will contribute to effective changeovers, continuous improvement activities and HACCP monitoring.

Operating safely and taking ownership and pride in their work, apprentices learn to work as part of a team, solving problems and being responsive to change. Looking for ways to do things better and develop a ‘right first time’ approach, learners also develop strong communication skills including the ability to give and receive feedback. They are flexible in their approach whilst operating with integrity and pride, acting as ambassadors for their shift, site, company and industry.

Why is this a great programme?

This programme will provide Process Operators with a wider understanding of their roles and the context in
which they work as well as supporting the development of core capability. Communication is a key aspect developed through this programme to enable operators to contribute to improvement activity.

Skills issue faced

Skills gaps identified in the operator population in terms of seeing themselves as part of an integrated production team and process. Lack of communication skills to enable businesses to implement CI activity.
